What is snapshot standby:
Snapshot standby is a feature in Oracle 11g that allows doing a read-write operation on the standby database. i. e we can convert the physical standby database to snapshot standby. On that, we can do all types of testing or can be used as a development database (which is an exact replication of production ). Once the testing is over we can again convert the snapshot database to physical standby. Once it is converted physical standby database, whatever changes were done to the snapshot standby will be reverted.

Cancel the recovery process:

We can see we are able to do write operation on snapshot database also.

Good & straight forward article.
In practice, we also configure an additional temporary service name which is available to application testers while the standby is in snapshot mode. This way the tester remember that they are going to lose their work once the snapshot is reverted bak to phy stby.
This is a very good practice to be followed by Application team .
Are you missing a statement that creates the restore point?
How would the SNAPSHOT_STANDBY_REQUIRED_10/03/2012 restore point show up without you creating it?

No brian, This is the beauty of snapshot standby database.
The command –alter database convert to snapshot standby– , will create the restore point automatically.

Once we converted back to physical stand by then why we shutdown and open database.
